Bethany Host Sexual Assault Awareness Basketball Games
By Zach Pressnell
The recent Bethany College basketball games on January 27* were more than just your average, division three basketball game. These games were hosted at Bethany College, and they came with some special
circumstances.
Bethany senior Makenzee, Mason alongside Bethany's Athletic Trainer Kacey Morrison came together to put together "Sexual Assault Awareness night" at Bethany College. This was done to bring attention and awareness to a subject that's often swept under the rug. This goal was achieved triumphantly.
At the game, each of the teams, men's and women's, for Bethany and Washington and Jefferson donned sexual assault awareness shirts. These same shirts could be seen throughout the crowd and on nearly
every student and staff member in the gymnasium. It was truly a sight to behold in Bethany, West
Virginia on Saturday.
There were a host of bake sales, silent auctions, donations, raffles and t-shirt sales, all done to raise
money for the West Virginia Foundation for Rape Information and Services. A Bethany fraternity, Phi
Tau chipped in as well, selling cookies and hot chocolate to raise money for the same foundation.
In the basketball games, the women's team would lose 78-58. Coach Mikayla Lopez's team was led by
Makenzee Mason, Lindsey Garrison and Ashleigh Wheeler, all of which would score in double digits.
The men's team would earn their second win against Washington and Jefferson this season, by a final
score of 105-75. Coach Brad Johnson's team was led by a ton of different players. Six different players would score in double figures with Cole Dailey recording a double double aswell.
