Bethany Women’s Lacrosse 2023 Players to Watch

By: Zach Pressnell

Cassidy Mailloux, 5th Year,

Cassidy Mailloux has been a staple in the Bethany Women’s Lacrosse program ever since she helped kickstart the program 5 years ago. She is 1 of 2 remaining members of the inaugural class (Sarah Sberna). Mailloux is not only one of the best players on the Bethany team, but one of the best players in the entire PAC. The senior brought home an All-PAC First Team nod as well as winning the Co-Female Athlete of the Year award at Bethany. She truly is one of the most talented and hardest working athletes in the entire conference, regardless of sport, age, or gender.

Mailloux is the perfect combination of attack and defense, as she led the Bison in goals (50) and points (61) as well as leading the team in draw controls (75) and ranking second in ground balls (56). She’s tasked with a multitude of responsibilities on the team and she has flourished in her leadership role. The 5th year senior has the potential to do some incredible things for the Bison this year. 2023 should be the best year yet for the Bethany star. Pay attention to Bethany Women’s Lacrosse. If you do, the name Cassidy Mailloux will be one that you’ll become quite familiar with.

Jada Carter, Freshman, M

Jada Carter is a name that will seem new to quite a lot of Bethany fans, as she has yet to officially suit up for the Bison. But she will surely make her name known this spring, as her teammates have some high expectations for the freshman. She had a tremendous fall and is expected to quickly make an impact when the season kicks off. Bethany lost one of their best players, Rikiah Wise, to graduation last year, and they will be looking to fill her void this year.

That is where Carter will most likely slot in. I expect her to not only see significant playing time as a freshman, but I expect her to make quite an impact as well. While it would be incredible for her to earn an All-Conference spot as a freshman, it can’t be expected of the young midfielder. But, with that said, she will claim some of these accolades, more than likely on multiple occasions, in her Bethany career.

Abbie Carpenter, Sophomore, M

Abbie Carpenter came to Bethany and immediately became one of the better players on the roster. She started all 17 games last year and will most likely start every game in her collegiate career, barring an unfortunate injury. She was the perfect third option to the Bison senior offensive duo (Mailloux and Wise). She ranked 3rd in almost every offensive statistic last season, those being goals, shots, and points. Carpenter also led the team in assists with 13.

And she will only improve this year. Not only has she had an entire offseason to refine and improve her game, but she will have an increased role as well. With the graduation of Wise, Carpenter is expected to fill the role and take a significant increase in shots and opportunities, which would likely result in a drastic increase in points. Last season, she earned All-PAC 2nd team. I would not be surprised to see her earn All-Pac recognition in every season she plays as a Bison, including this 2023 season.
